What is the name of the sculpture outside of the Library?

Answer

The sculpture directly outside the Zuhl Library is called Quest for Knowledge. This 20-foot-wide steel sculpture was designed as a public art work to accompany the building of the new library (now Zuhl). According to Armijo, the rocket-like column in the middle represents “how the thought process can be so fast” while the sphere symbolizes that “knowledge builds up. Almost like infinity.”

The sculpture directly outside the Branson Library is called Joy of Learning. Artist Grant Kinzer was an NMSU professor in the Department of Entomology, Plant Pathology and Weed Science. The Joy of Learning was his first sculpture of this size, and his goal was to create a piece large enough for children to sit in the sculpture’s lap.
