The NMSU Institutional Repository currently does not mint DOIs. Therefore, you may want to try the following options:
1. Use a Repository That Issues DOIs
Repositories that support research outputs beyond traditional publications can assign DOIs. Some options include:
-
Zenodo (by CERN): Accepts software, datasets, and educational materials. It’s free and assigns DOIs via DataCite.
-
Figshare: Supports a wide range of research outputs, including games and interactive media.
-
OSF (Open Science Framework): Allows you to upload and share research products and can mint DOIs.
-
Harvard Dataverse: Suitable for datasets and educational tools, depending on format.
These platforms can be used to archive and share non-traditional scholarly outputs.
2. Work with a DOI Registration Agency
If your institution works with a DOI registration agency like DataCite or Crossref, you might be able to register different types of research outputs—not just papers, but also things like data, software, or methods. Questions? Contact NMSU Office of Research, Creativity, and Economic Development ovpr@nmsu.edu.
3. Publish a Companion Article
If the artifact is based on research, consider publishing a short article or technical report describing it and its educational value. Journals or conference proceedings that assign DOIs can then link to the artifact.
