You can share streaming videos with your students via Canvas or email and ensure they can access the film by adding the NMSU Library's proxy prefix to the URL for the film. This creates a seamless link that verifies the student's NMSU status and allows them access to our subscriptions.
Kanopy
1. Make sure your film is available. If so, select the film and then copy the unique URL for the film. It's listed in the browser URL window at the top. If the film isn't available to NMSU but is available in Kanopy, you will need to request access. Information for faculty requests for video access for Kanopy collections is listed here.
2. To create a shareable URL, first use the beginning part, you will need to use NMSU's prefix
https://nmsu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=
prior to adding the complete URL for the video. This includes everything. Don’t leave off the https://
Here's an example of a Kanopy video URL
https://www.kanopy.com/en/nmsu/watch/video/131017
3. For example, the video Rape Myths on Trial is available to stream via Kanopy with NMSU's subscription. The complete url that you would list for this video in Canvas should look like this:
https://nmsu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.kanopy.com/en/nmsu/watch/video/131017
4. Once your students click the link you have provide, it will ask them to log in using their myNMSU username and password. Please use only the username, do NOT use the full email address. If students are on a campus computer or using the NMSU VPN, they will be connected immediately.
Academic Video Online (AVON), the permalink (NMSU's prefix) is built into the system.

Copy that permalink into your Canvas course and students should be able to access the video.
As an extra safeguard, tell your students to always login to the campus VPN when accessing any library subscription from off campus.
Please email the Reference Department or call 575-646-5792 if you have further questions.
